Balancing Hormones with Nutritional Therapy
The balance of female reproductive hormones in our bodies is a very delicate one and it can become disrupted due to many reasons. For example: poor diet, exposure to environmental toxins and chemicals (e.g. xenoestrogens), chronic stress and imbalances in other bodily systems and organs. Reproductive hormone imbalances can lead to many symptoms and disorders including:
- Fatigue
- Migraines
- Hair loss
- Skin issues (e.g. acne)
- Weight gain
- Mood fluctuations/low mood/depression
- Sugar cravings & afternoon crash
- Premenstrual symptoms
- Painful or irregular periods
- Menopausal symptoms
- Sleep disturbances
- Night sweats
- Irritability and stress
- Fertility Issues
Hormone imbalances are also associated with conditions such as PCOS, Endometriosis, Infertility, PMS, and impaired thyroid function.
The good news is you can improve your hormone balance; correct nutrition is one way to help on this journey.

Menstruation
For menstruating women, I recommend tracking your cycle using one of the readily available apps in order to understand your body more intimately. The average menstrual cycle lasts for 28 days, although cycles can vary between three to six weeks. A cycle is counted from the first day of your period until the first day of your next period. Using this information in a nutrition consultation allows us to plot any specific symptoms in relation to your cycle, consider your ovulation window if you are preparing to have a baby, and identify specific nutrients to include in your diet and support particular hormone pathways (such as oestrogen and progesterone).
Menopause
Menstrual symptoms are also common as women approach menopause. If you are experiencing new uncomfortable symptoms in your 40s and 50s it can often be the beginning of your transition into the menopausal years and a great time to consider making some tweaks to your diet.
Menopausal symptoms:
- Hot flushes
- Sleep problems
- Feeling upset, anxious, or irritable
- Physical & mental exhaustion
- Change in libido, sexual activity, and satisfaction
- Vaginal dryness
- Joint and muscular discomfort
What will Nutritional Therapy involve?
My passion is to dig deep into the causes of your body’s imbalances. I’ll support you in making dietary changes and lifestyle modifications and recommend supplements when necessary to support a deficiency or to correct an imbalance and give your body the building blocks it needs to re-establish hormone balance, comfort, and health.
My work is 100% personalised to you the client. Using science-based evidence, I frequently discuss options for functional testing. That way our functional medicine expertise alongside your test results guides us on a journey bespoke to you.
